Hi again! I started these and I finished the left glove. I am not sure why, but my thumb ended up being too far to the inside of the glove and it makes the cable pattern sit way over on the left side of my arm. I am not quite sure what I did wrong. I followed the directions to the letter. I am starting the right glove shortly to see if I can correct it. The other one is just going to be a little off because I don't want to rip back that far! lol.

That yarn sounds exciting Kathy! I'm not a gauge knitter I'm afraid so can't help you with that!
A "five bar gate" is where you put four vertical lines like this: |||| and then put a diagonal like across them, so it looks like a gate. It's a quick way to mark down in 5s

Me again. I'm finally ready to start. What does "five bar gates mean"? Also what is the gage?
I'm using alpaca spun from a friend's animal and a strand of mohair/silk Schulana, kid-seta - at least that is what I'm attempting.
Thanks again.

Hi there, Thank you so much for sharing your patterns!! I have been knitting for ever, but never reallly attempted knitting gloves. But, I really want to give it a go. So, thank you for the free pattern. Once I have knitted a pair, you will be the first to see them. They will never look as awesome as yours, but I'll give it a go!!

Thanks,
Jane

Hi Kathy
To be honest, the Lady Jane Grey's are an easier cable pattern to remember but if you're worried about being accurate, that might mean you don't keep the pattern to hand.
My tip with cable patterns is to mark off each row repeat as you go with 'five bar gates" and start a new line of them when I start the cable pattern repeat again.
That way not only do you know which row of the pattern you're on, you can easily count, which repeat of the cable you're on and where you are in the pattern. I find it helps if you ever get lost in the pattern!
Good luck and looking forward to seeing the pictures

Which are easier, these or the winter wonderland?
I'm not the most accurate knitter. They are both beautiful.

All of the terms I've used are the basic knitting terms - this is a free pattern rather than a book, I always put any unusual abbreviations but not the standard ones, sorry.

Hi Tara!
You start the thumb gusset on the 7th repeat of the cable pattern (apologies that the photo isn't clearer!) and you do 3 repeats of the pattern during the increase of the thumb gusset, then the 10th repeat while you knit the thumb straight (with no increases) and then once more on the hand, once you've put the thumb sts onto waste yarn. You can do it for an 12th time if you want the hand part to be longer.
My version is 11 cable repeats in total - Hope that helps
Are you on Ravelry? If so please link to the pattern there - can't wait to see photos!
